Did You Know ...

- Considering all the tissues and cells in your body, 25 million new cells are being produced each second. That's a little less than the population of Canada - every second!

- The amount of sunlight reaching the earth's surface is 6,000 times the amount of energy used by all human beings worldwide. The total amount of fossil fuel used by humans since the start of civilization is equivalent to less than 30 days of sunshine.

-
Our eyes never grow, and our nose and ears never stop growing.

- People are the only animals in the world who cry tears.

-
Google is a play on the word googol. A googol is the number 10100, which is a one followed by 100 zeros.

- If every star in the Milky Way was a grain of salt they would fill an Olympic sized swimming pool.

Imam Al-Ridha (A.S.) said:

The one for whom the day of A'ashura is a day of tragedy, grief and weeping, Allah The Mighty, The Glorious, shall make the Day of Judgment, a day of joy and happiness for him.

Bihar al'Anwar, vol. 44, pg. 284

The Holy Prophet said: 'Husayn is of me and I am of Husayn. May God love those who love Husayn.'

Al Tirmidhi, vol.2 pg. 306

The Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) said: O' Fatimah! Every eye shall be weeping on the Day of Judgment except the eye which has shed tears over the tragedy of Husain (A.S.) for surely, that eye shall be laughing and shall be given the glad tidings of the bounties and comforts of Paradise.

Bihar al'Anwar, vol. 44 pg. 193.

Imam Redha (A.S.) said: One who refrains from seeking his (worldly) desires on the day of A'ashura, Allah shall grant him his desires of this world and the hereafter.

Imam Sadiq (A.S.) said: He (Imam Husain) sees those, who come to his shrine and he knows them by their names, their father's names and their ranks in the eyes of Allah, The Mighty, The Glorious, better than you know your own children!

Wasaail al Shiah vol 14, pg. 411.

The Holy Prophet said: 'Whoever loves Hasan and Husayn, I love him, and whomsoever I love, God also loves, and whomsoever God loves, He shall cause him to enter into the gardens of bliss.'

Al-Muttaqi Al-Hindi, pg. 221

Islamic Thought & Culture

Islam & Its Presentation of 'Allah'

If it be a question of complete and comprehensive knowledge of God, then, of course, we must accept that man's ability to know does not extent that far. God's characteristics cannot be placed within given limits, and whatever comparison or simile we offer for them is bound to be false, for whatever is observable to science and thought in the natural realm is the work of God and the product of His will and command. Is man, then, too abject and powerless to perceive anything of the essence and attributes of so elevated a reality?

Islamic Personality Series: Imam Al Husayn [as]

It cannot be gainsaid that the Ashura Day or the Tragedy of Karbala has no parallel in the history of the world. Though its significance has been realized by a large number of people, yet it requires to be brought home to the ignorant masses and the educated persons, who are desirous of learning the true concepts of Islam, but have been handicapped by hearing or listening to only one-sided or biased accounts.

Reaffirming our pledge to Imam Husayn [as]. . .

The Sun of Dhul Hijjah has set. It takes away with it the warm happiness and joy. The darkness spreads as the moon of Muharram ascends, a thin crescent cloaked with sorrow. It brings with it the cries of the household of the Prophet [pbuh]. The month of Muharram has arrived and with it comes the remembrance of the tragedy of Karbala.

A Broken Tasbih

A tasbih (rosary) is a beautiful thing. One hundred beads strung together with a single string each representing one of the beautiful names of the almighty all the beads lined up shoulder to shoulder. One bead by itself is alone, insignificant and hollow. But when all the beads are joined together it is complete, strong and becomes an instrument for the remembrance of God (dhikrAllah).

Ghadeer: Its Everlasting Message

Every country and every form of government has a common method and style of replacing its leaders. From the very simple tribal systems of rule to the more complex and elaborate forms of world government, you would be hard-pressed to find a single example in which a country does not have a system and a setup for replacing its leaders. It’s vital for a country that when the current leader dies, is killed, or steps down that another individual is there ready and able to take his place and keep the country stable and in order.

Attached ImageFaith’s Training Ground
Just as the jihad of Imam Zainal Abideen (AS) did not end in Damascus, the jihad of Imam Hussain (AS) did not begin in Karbala. Our third Imam’s entire life, and not merely an oft-noted span of three days, was filled with struggle and grief; from the death of his beloved grandfather and mother in his youth to his father and brother’s brutal deaths later on.

Attached ImageThe Pathway to Inward Revolution

Philosophers, past rulers of the world, and even Miriam Webster himself, have all given us their insights on the term ‘revolution’. Mahatmas Gandhi put the idea in a few simple words; “You must be the change you wish to see in the world”. ‘Revolution’ in essence is the drastic change in ways of thinking and behaviour, on a personal, as well as on a societal basis. Every desire is revolutionary, because it aims at changing something out of its norm. The only thing that stops that ‘change’ is you.

Escape to Allah [SWT]

A box, made of bricks, covered simply by a black piece of cloth: With no previous knowledge, and only this incredibly inaccurate definition, one would be shocked to know that it is talking of one of the three houses of Allah [SWT] on this earth. Something so simple, yet grand and majestic at the exact same time, is what we know to be the house of Allah [SWT] in Mecca, that millions of Muslims make pilgrimage to, every single year.

Uncovering the Truth: A Revert Sister’s Journey within Islam

After picking up the Qur’an for the first time I was immediately struck with a memory of an on-going recurring dream I had my whole life. In the dream I am reaching forward towards an old book that sits open on a wooden table, the room is dimly lit by candle. I feel compelled to get to the book, I must reach it but a force holds me back. I occasionally reach the book but the words are unclear and I suddenly wake up, feeling lost and frustrated by the dream.

Secrets of Success: Discipline

Not only that discipline is a secret of the success of great men, our universe also stands on the same foundation. If the solar system is working regularly, if the stars are revolving around the sun systematically and if there is no flaw in this function for millenniums it is only due to the fact that the solar system is based on order.

I am a slave seeking freedom. I am a prisoner seeking release. I am a coward seeking courage. I watch two versions of my life play out, I see two mirrors, one tinted black, and one tinted white. I see two slaves, bound by the same heavy chains. I see my pain in their faces; I see my fear in their hearts, and my weakness in their limbs. I watch fearfully, because I am bound by the same chains, and I must learn how to set myself free.

Attached ImageI am Sakinah, today is Ashoora and here is Karbala.
Perhaps an hour has passed noon. I do not know. From morning to now, for us, it has seemed like a lifetime; especially these moments that father has gone towards the battlefield. It is hard to gaze at the cloud of dust rising in the battlefield and to hear the shrieks of the enemy, while father is among them; it is very hard.
