Bahrain: Democracy or Dictatorship? PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 16 January 2008
Bahrain: Democracy or Dictatorship? In this episode of The Agenda on Press TV hosted by journalist Yvonne Ridley, a panel discusses Bahrain: its political history, socio-economic place in the Middle East and more importantly, the program focuses on the plight of the nation's Shia population and the state discrimination that they face. The short history of Bahrain has been intertwined with a tale of systemic repression and suppression against the majority of the kingdom's citizens. In late 2006, Dr. Salah Al Bandar disclosed in a report, the infamous Bandargate scandal, a political scheme on the part of government officials to foment sectarian strife and ensure continual marginalisation and oppression of the island kingdom's Shia population. Within the key highlights of the report by Dr. Al Bandar were systematic action plans to manipulate elections to further marginalise Shias in Bahrain from the political process - this in addition to an extensive project of demographic engineering on the part of the Al-Khalifa monarchy, with the aim of altering the Shia tone to Bahrain's population.

Noam Chomsky on US Policy Towards Iran PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 25 November 2007
Noam Chomsky on US Policy Towards Iran Suppose it was true that Iran is helping insurgents in Iraq. I mean, wasn't the United States helping insurgents when the Russians invaded Afghanistan? Did we think there was anything wrong with that? I mean, Iraq's a country that was invaded and is under military occupation. You can't have a serious discussion about whether someone else is interfering in it. The basic assumption underlying the discussion is that we own the world. So if we invade and occupy another country, then it's a criminal act for anyone to interfere with it. What about the nuclear weapons? I mean, are there countries with nuclear weapons in the region? Israel has a couple of hundred nuclear weapons. The United States gives more support to it than any other country in the world.

Life After Death and The Hereafter PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 24 November 2007
Life After Death and The Hereafter AIM TV: In this world the rays of man's awareness can illuminate for him a realm that appears extensive to him but is in reality finite, whereas in the hereafter human perception attains its utmost expansion and becomes unlimited. One of the fundamental differences between life in this world and life in the hereafter is that the relationships prevailing in the latter are utterly different from those found in the material world because of the sublime and perfect nature of the hereafter. In this series of lectures, Sheikh Muhammad Saeed Bahmanpour covers various stages of life after death, Resurrection and specifically the phases of the Hereafter and their relation, as a whole, to the limited human existence on Earth. Sheikh Bahmanpour also touches on Ideals such as Freedom, Love and Justice; how these relate to the Hereafter and how each human being shall perceive and taste these Ideals based on our individual endeavours and achievements in this life.

Ilan Pappe: The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 03 November 2007
The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine by Ilan Pappe The present dismal reality unfolding in the Middle East has clear historical roots and a journey into the past may help to illuminate what lies behind the destructive policies of Israel in Palestine. Zionism arrived in Palestine in the late 19th as a colonialist movement motivated by national impulses. With the backing of Britain, the colonisation project expanded, and became a solid presence on the land after the war and with the establishment of the British mandate in Palestine (which lasted between 1918 and 1948). The pro-Zionist policy of the British mandate there naturally strained the relationship between Britain and the local Palestinian society. The Zionist leadership defined 80 percent of Palestine (Israel today without the West Bank) as the space for the future state. This was an area in which one million Palestinians lived next to 600,000 Jews. Between February 1947 and March 1948, a final plan for ethnic cleansing of Palestinians was prepared and put into action resulting in the ethnic cleansing of almost 1,000,000 Palestinians.

America's Long Term Plan in Iraq - The Bases Are Loaded Will the U.S. ever leave Iraq? Official policy promises an eventual departure, while warning of the dire consequences of a "premature" withdrawal. But while Washington equivocates, facts on the ground tell another story. Independent journalist Dahr Jamail, and author Chalmers Johnson, are discovering that military bases in Iraq are being consolidated from over a hundred to a handful of "megabases" with lavish amenities. Much of what is taking place is obscured by denials and quibbles over the definition of "permanent." The Bases Are Loaded covers a wide range of topics. Gary Hart, James Goldsborough, Nadia Keilani, Raed Jarrar, Bruce Finley Kam Zarrabi and Mark Rudd all add their observations about the extent and purpose of the bases in Iraq.

Bolton: US supports pre-emptive Israeli strike on Iran President Bush's former United Nations ambassador John Bolton said the United States would stand behind a pre-emptive strike by Israel against countries developing "WMD facilities." In his remark, printed in Tuesday's edition of the Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot, Bolton directly referenced Iran. "The greatest concern is to prevent Iran and other countries in the region from acquiring nuclear weapons," Bolton said, according to JTA.org, a Jewish news service. "We're talking about a clear message to Iran -- Israel has the right to self-defense --and that includes offensive operations against WMD facilities that pose a threat to Israel. The United States would justify such attacks."
