Between Law and Morality As part of a series of lectures on Self-Knowledge, Sheikh Muhammad Shomali introduces the themes of Law and Morality; their respective domains, their goals and how they shape the life of a Muslim. Dr. Shomali introduces Law as the primary foundation and a necessary requirement from which loftier peaks of perfection can be reached. Morality, unlike Law which focuses on the minimum level of perfection, caters for the different ambitions and potentialities for every human being. Sheikh Shomali is a graduate of the Islamic Seminaries in Qum and also holds a doctorate in Philosophy.

Daughter of Murdered Shia Cleric escapes Assassination Attempt Unidentified assailants shot at the daughter of assassinated Shia cleric Allama Ghulam Hussain Najafi in Kot Lakhpat on Saturday. She survived the attack. Later on Sunday, Shia leaders protested against the police and administration, saying that the Liaqatabad police had not registered a terrorism case. The police have registered a case. On Saturday morning, unidentified men armed with Kalashnikovs opened indiscriminate fire on Madrassa Sakina Bintul Hussain in Pindi Rajpootan, Kot Lakhpat, where Fatima Najafia was the principal. Several Shia leaders under the platform of Hussaini Azadar Alliance (HAA) protested against the attack and the police. They demanded the dismissal and prosecution of the Liaqatabad police station house officer for being negligent and for not providing security to the school after repeated requests.

Anthony Shadid: Focus on Lebanon Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Anthony Shadid spends most of his time in Lebanon and is a correspondent for the Washington Post. He is interviewed by Michael Provence, Professor of history at the University of California, San Diego. Shadid relates his experiences covering the 2006 conflict between Israel and Hizbollah, and uncovers some popular myths about the conduct of the Lebanese resistance during the war. During the interview, he also discusses the present political impasse in Lebanon and provides an overview of the historical disenfranchisement of Shias in Lebanon; their alienation from politics and economic deprivation, and the need to promote a process by which the various groups in Lebanon are accorded with their natural rights.

ImageIranian news agency reports Saudi security official was directly involved in assassination of top Hizbullah commander. A senior Saudi official was directly involved in the assassination of top Hizbullah commander Imad Mugniyah, the Iranian news agency Fars reported Tuesday. According to the report, the man, who works at the Saudi embassy in Damascus, contacted a Syrian woman who purchased two cars under her name, which exploded during the assassination.

Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Muhammad Baqir Al-Sadr was executed on April 9th 1980, by the Ba'athist regime. The distinguished leader was a co-founder of the Islamic political movement in Iraq established in the late 1950s. In academic life, Shaheed Al-Sadr authored many publications which have forever revolutionised the teaching of various Islamic sciences in the seminaries. The AhlulBayt Islamic Mission presents 'Martyr of Islam: Shaheed Al-Sadr', on the anniversary of his martyrdom to commemorate this great beacon of light and guidance who through his life, contributions and esteem martyrdom, gave life to millions.
