AIM offers Free Islamic Books in the UK PDF Print E-mail

ImageThe AhlulBayt Islamic Mission (AIM) is proud to present its latest tabligh initiative in providing free Islamic literature with free delivery to households in the United Kingdom. A long needed project for those interested in furthering their Islamic education, this initiative is particularly aimed at those who find Islamic literature to be largely inaccessible to them. It is hoped that through such initiatives, we can help enhance general Islamic awareness within both Muslim and non-Muslim communities.

International Conference: Proximity amongst Islamic schools of thought Islamic scholars from all over the globe gathered in London for a two-day International conference at the Islamic Centre of England titled: Proximity amongst Islamic schools of thought, on 23rd-24th of June, 2007. Organised by the Islamic Centre of England, it aimed to support opportunities for collective action and expand intellectual dialogue in order to pave the way for openness and greater co-operation in confronting modern day challenges. In addition to features of proximity and methods of bridging the divide amongst schools of thoughts, speakers also discussed recent developments including the attacks on the holy shrines in Iraq and the shameful knighthood of Salman Rushdie clearly aimed at inciting Muslim feelings. The conference also discussed the growing threat of extremism; in particular Wahhabism and its’ political and social dimensions.

The 'Blairite Legacy' Clare Short, former Cabinet Minister and a vocal critic of Tony Blair's foreign policy and leadership style, speaks of the 'Blairite Legacy' on the Dateline programme. Days after resigning from her post in the Labour Party over the Iraq war, Clare Short famously told the Foreign Affairs Select Committee on the decisions to go to war in Iraq: "I think it is a series of half-truths, exaggerations and reassurances that were not the case to get us into conflict by the spring and I think that commitment had been made by the previous summer. I think nothing else explains the failure to allow Blix to complete his process and the way in which certainly I personally was deceived and I think the country was deceived..."

Statement: Ayatollah Lankarani Returns to His Lord PDF Print E-mail

ImageVerily we are from Allah and to Him do we return. It is with deep sadness and grief that the AhlulBayt Islamic Mission offers its condolences to the Imam of our time and the Ummah at large on the demise of His Eminence Grand Ayatollah Fadhel Lankarani (may Allah elevate his status). The grand Ayatollah, who had millions of followers inside and outside Iran, recently moved to Tehran from the holy city of Qom to receive medical treatment but after his treatment proved unsatisfactory and his general health conditions deteriorated, he sadly departed from this world on Saturday 16th June 2007.

AIM Statement: Samarra attack demonstrates need to end Occupation PDF Print E-mail

Image The AhlulBayt Islamic Mission emphasized today the need for national unity and an end to the occupation of Iraq following a repeat of the Samarra bombings that brought a rise in sectarian violence since 2006. AIM said it was determined in its’ efforts to promote unity in Iraq and elsewhere. At this fragile moment, AIM continues to closely monitor the situation in Iraq with the knowledge that the outcomes of such attacks stretch far beyond Iraq.

Sacred Samarra shrine attacked again in Iraq PDF Print E-mail

ImageOne of the holiest shrines for Shia Muslims, whose partial destruction last year helped provoke a wave of sectarian violence in Iraq, has been attacked again, raising fears of another outbreak of hatred between the country's warring communities. Explosives brought down the two minarets of the Golden Mosque in Samarra at around 9am, local time, this morning. There was no report on casualties or how the attackers managed to evade a police guard at the site.

Islamic Human Rights Commission responds to Blair statements on UK trained preachers PDF Print E-mail

IHRC responds to Tony Blair statements The Islamic Human Rights Commission is deeply concerned by the recent statement made by Tony Blair to have more imams and religious leaders trained in the UK. He also pledged £1m for British universities which teach Islamic Studies courses, ‘re-designed to challenge extremism.’ In response to this statement, Chair of IHRC, Massoud Shadjareh stated: “It is totally unacceptable that preachers of any faith should be trained by secular universities. This sort of interference is nothing but social engineering designed to highlight Islam as a problem rather than a solution to extremism.”
