9 Million Shia Mourners converge on Karbala About nine million pilgrims have visited the shrine city of Karbala for Arbaeen, the 40th and final day of mourning for Imam Hussain. "The number of people who visited Karbala has touched nine million," Major General Raed Shakir Jawdat told AFP. Akhil al-Khazali, the governor of Karbala, said it was a "record" turnout. Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), is revered as the third Imam by Shia Muslims. He fought against cruelty, corruption and injustice and was martyred in the course of his heroic struggle on orders from the tyrant second Umayyad caliph, Yazid, in 680 CE.

The Legacy of Lady Zaynab (a) in the court of Yazid PDF Print E-mail

The Legacy of Lady Zaynab (a) in the court of Yazid When the caravan of sorrows reached the outskirts of Damascus they were made to halt. Yazid was informed of their arrival and he fixed a date for their entry into the city. On the morning of the appointed day, the members of the family of the Holy Prophet (s) were led into Damascus. They were tied with ropes and herded together like goats. If anyone stumbled she was whipped. In this manner the captives were paraded until the afternoon when they reached the palace of Yazid. Zaynab (a) however was not afraid. She drew herself up and boldly said for all to hear: "Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds and blessings on my grandfather, the Chief of divine prophets. O Yazid, Allah says, and his word is true, that: 'Then evil was the end of those who did evil because they rejected the communications of Allah and used to mock them' [30:10]."

Verily we are from Allah and to Him do we return. With deep sadness and great grief, the AhlulBayt Islamic Mission today lost one of its most dedicated and valued volunteers, Sister Aaliyah Al-Askari. Her sudden demise has shocked her friends and acquaintances who have flooded the forums with emotional messages of grief and loss. To all those who knew her Aaliyah was an inspiration. She was an administrator of the AIM Forums and sacrificed her time and effort to keep alive the forums with no other goal but for seeking His Pleasure and Reward. Today she has left us to journey towards that eternal abode seeking the Most Merciful Lord; the Friend of the believers.

The Profanity of a Profane World PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 15 February 2008
The Profanity of a Profane World Man without a sense of the Absolute is a man that is bewildered and distraught amongst countless relativities. In a world where there is no Sacred, everything is profane. In a profane world, profanity is indistinguishable from true and noble speech worthy of man and his divine origins. Without such distinctions, man is free to bark everything and anything that comes out of his mouth. Not realizing that the very freedom of will that he uses to express his profanity is only made possible by the existence of the sacred and supreme will of his Creator.

Twenty-Nine, going on Thirty: In Honor of the Islamic Revolution PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 14 February 2008
Twenty-Nine, going on Thirty: In Honor of the Islamic Revolution It has been 29 years since the victory. 29 years since the moral and political triumph over corruption and brainwashed mentality. Many Muslims continue to walk around today, clueless as to what effect the efforts of Imam Khomeini and the Iranian people left on Islam in modern times. Many Muslims are unwilling to read about it, or even ask questions. Maybe it’s that "fear of the unknown" factor? For 29 years now, we have sat back and taken the lies, accepted the critiques, the misinterpretations, the ignorance. Imam Khomeini was a figure who gave his all to make people feel proud of their beliefs, making it unbearable to just sit back.
