Bahraini Shia Activists Face Torture PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 08 February 2008
Bahraini Shia Activists Face Torture Bahrainis demonstrated in front of the Manama police headquarters on Friday to demand the release of detained activists who have faced torture and been abused. A new Human Rights Watch report puts Bahrain among nations that are getting away with human rights violations. Relatives of Maytham Badr al-Shaykh, one of the detainees charged in the protests, told Human Rights Watch during a brief visit to see him at the Adliyeh interrogation center in Manama on January 16, he told them that officials had abused him, including by sexual assault and with electricity. The abuse allegations center on several opposition political activists who were among dozens arrested following confrontations between protesters and security forces in and around the capital Manama in December 2007.

Why the lack of English Scholars? PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 08 February 2008
ImageIslam is growing rapidly, and many people don’t speak Arabic, Farsi, and Urdu. This underlines the need for Speakers and Lecturers that speak a “Universal” Language: English. Having English speakers will also help the “Born Muslims” also. It seems like a no brainer right? Well, then will someone please explain the clear lack of English speakers? It would be an injustice to not acknowledge that we do have a few Scholars and Speakers who are fluent in English, but even so, that is not sufficient for several reasons. The demand is far greater than the supply; in order for Muslims to continue to grow, the number of Educated Individuals in this regard must keep up with the pace of the growth; the consequences of failing to do so may and has pushed individuals away from the religion of Islam.

Hussain - The Universal Leader PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 15 January 2008
Hussain - The Universal Leader It is in the very nature of great reformers that they belong to everybody, everywhere. Hussain’s noble deed is so relevant to the entire human race that I am sure there is a far bigger audience waiting for him somewhere than the one he already has. All that is required is to draw people’s attention. Contemporary society, irrespective of race and religion, would do well to have a closer look at the Hero of Kerbala as his message transcends the barriers of caste creed, race and religion. Advocates of human rights, sociologists, reformers, theologians, all included, will find "delightful wisdom, sweet instructions, and a meaning suited to their mind," in his story. His message is certainly not an exclusive preserve of any particular group. It embraces the entire human race. It was not a power struggle. Hussain persistently and explicitly expounded; what matters to me is to "correct not conquer".

Sayings of Imam Hussain (a) PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 11 January 2008
Sayings of Imam Hussain (a) Imam Hussain (a) stood up to restore freedom, equality and justice; qualities which the Divine Message had perfected but were constantly undermined by those who hijacked religion and acted in its name. He rose to free society from the shackles of oppression and the slavery of imperial powers. The famous words of Hussain: "If you can’t believe, at least try to be free" have been etched into the heart and soul of humanity since his unmatched sacrifice on the plains of Karbala. In his written will before leaving Medina, Hussain declared; ‘I have risen as I seek to reform the community of my grandfather. I wish to bid the good and forbid the evil.’ In Hussain’s legacy lies the perfect model for every oppressed society in how to overcome the evils of tyranny and oppression. Present here is a small collection of short maxims by Imam Hussain which provide to each seeker of truth insightful directives, resolute strength and unwavering faith.
