Millions of Shias converge in Baghdad to mark Martyrdom of Imam Al-Kadhim (a) Millions of Shiite pilgrims converged on a golden-domed shrine in northern Baghdad on Thursday, some beating their heads and chests with their hands and others lamenting in groups to honor an eighth century saint known for his piety, humility and ability to restrain his anger. Imam Musa Al-Kadhim, the fifth descendant of the Holy Prophet of Islam and the seventh Imam of the Twelver-Shiites, was imprisoned and later killed by the ruler of the Muslim caliphate in 799 AD. The ceremony honoring the anniversary of Al-Kadhim's death is important in the Shiite faith and has gained increased significance in Iraq. Such commemmorations and expressions of public sorrow and grief were banned under Saddam Hussein's regime, which looked upon these gatherings as threats to the stability and continuity of the regime.

US and Reshaping its Policies in the Persian Gulf PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 09 August 2007
US and Reshaping its Policies in the Persian Gulf After failing in it’s attempt to implement it’s new Middle East initiative, the White House felt compelled to change it’s strategy and began fomenting conflicts in the Persian Gulf region. It is obvious that an arms buildup by the Arab countries of the Persian Gulf could also threaten Iran's national security, because the U.S. would surely try to provoke them to act against Iran's interests in the future. In addition, such an arms buildup would allow the United States to send more military experts to the Persian Gulf region under the pretext of training Arab armies. The United States is trying to reconfigure and reshape its security and military relationships with regional friends and allies in the Persian Gulf to take account of their changing security perceptions and policies.

Norms of History in the Holy Quran PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 03 August 2007
Norms of History in the Qur'an An inquiry into the system of the laws which govern the process of history and the effects which historical events produce on the life of society is one of the most important needs of our society at the present juncture. An insight into this system is essential for the continued vitality of our cultural and its extension to other peoples of the world. The fact is that Islam has a special philosophy in regard to the nations and the communities. Similarly, it has its own so called sociology. It does not want simply to recount the historical events, nor is it interested in any particular period of history or in the sociology of any particular people. If Islam has referred to these things, it has done so purely with a view to deduce certain universal laws which govern all human societies and determine their future course, whether good or bad.

Bush freezes Assets of groups in Opposition to Siniora's pro-Western government President George W. Bush ordered on Thursday a freeze on the U.S. assets of anyone Washington deems to be undermining Lebanon's pro-Western government. The Bush administration did not identify those targeted by the decree, but it comes just a month after he imposed a U.S. travel ban on Syrian officials and Lebanese politicians whom the United States accuses of fomenting instability in Lebanon. The United States strongly backed a May U.N. Security Council resolution setting up an international tribunal under Chapter 7 of the UN Charter, to try suspects in the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri, thereby paving the way for increased foreign involvement in the internal affairs of Lebanon.
