Monday, 04 February 2008
Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya have donated 500 bales of maize-meal and 100 cartons of cooking oil for distribution through the Mombasa Branch of Kenya Red Cross to people affected by the post-election violence.

While presenting the donation of foodstuff worth K.Shs. 450,000/=, which included 100 bales of maize meal donated by Milly Group of Companies to Red Cross Mombasa Branch Chairman, Mr. Francis Ngugi, in the presence of the National Deputy Governor of Kenya Red Cross, Mr. A. A. Molu and other Branch officials, Mr. Abbas Nasser, the Chairman of the Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya, who was accompanied by members of his Managing Committee expressed his Mission's deep concern at the loss of innocent lives, injuries, destruction of property and infrastructure and displacement of thousands of people including women and children.

Mr. Nasser told the Red Cross officials that his Mission had launched a world-wide appeal asking his community members to donate generously in the name of Imam Hussein, the grandson of Prophet 'Muhammad' (p.b.u.h) to assist the needy irrespective of their class, colour, creed or religious affiliation.

He stated that he was over whelmed by the spontaneous response the Mission had and continues to receive locally and from as far away as USA, UK and Canada.

Mr. Nasser thanked the Red Cross for agreeing to distribute the donated items to the needy people.

He appealed to the country's leaders to reconcile for the sake of the innocent people of Kenya so that Kenyans can live like brothers and sisters as in the past.
