Hizbullah's international relations officer, Nawaf Moussawi, said Monday that
the "most dangerous thing in US policies was their engagement in the blatant
disruption of attempts at dialogue and consensus among Lebanese political
forces." Moussawi added that the US was engaged in "deepening political and sectarian divides within each confession in order to ignite mobile civil wars."
After meeting with Brazilian Ambassador Eduardo Seixas, Moussawi said a war was
being waged against the Free Patriotic Movement, headed by opposition MP Michel
Aoun. Moussawi said this war ultimately aimed at the abolition of the majority
of Christians, who believe "in national unity and free will." He stressed that the freedom of Lebanon could only come through its "self-defense capabilities, including those of the resistance" and that independence could only be attained through consensus and unity.
