Statement: Terror Threat in UK

The United Kingdom is once again witnessing growing tension given the increased threat of terror following the alarming incidents in London and Glasgow. Terrorism has killed British Muslims and non-Muslims alike and has threatened the general security and welfare of humanity at large.

The AhlulBayt Islamic Mission hereby condemns all such acts aimed to cause harm to the lives of innocent civilians. At this juncture, AIM extends its deepest gratitude to all those involved in the response efforts in London and Glasgow who through their bravery and expertise protected innocent lives. We would also like to praise the valour of members of the public who courageously came to the aid of security personnel during these efforts.

AIM calls on the British public and the Muslim community in particular, to assist in the investigation of these deplorable acts by providing any such information that may serve to secure the lives of innocent civilians.

Terrorism and extremism, in all their forms, present a threat to the entire human race regardless of race, creed or religion. We therefore commend the responsible words by a number of public figures, both religious and political; who have underlined the need for unity amongst all Britons. We echo the words of the Mayor of London, Mr. Ken Livingstone, who once again reaffirmed the law-abiding character of British Muslims and called upon the British government to seriously consider its ties with ‘friendly allies’ who sponsor Wahhabism; an intolerant and extreme Muslim sect.

AIM stresses that the media has a moral duty to act as a source of reassurance during such troubling times and should thus keep away from speculative reports that may incite panic amongst the public.

The AhlulBayt Islamic Mission strongly believes that the threat of terrorism can only be confronted through joint efforts by all Britons. We thus call upon the government to act appropriately and avoid any such measures that may marginalise segments of the British society.

AIM advises members of the public to immediately contact the New Scotland Yard in the case of any suspicious activity:
