Dr. Mohammad Ali Shomali is a graduate of the Islamic seminary of Qum and has a B.A. and an M.A. in western philosophy from the University of Tehran. He earned his doctorate in philosophy from the University of Manchester. His publications include Self-Knowledge (1996 & 2006), Ethical Relativism (2001), Discovering Shi'a Islam (Fifth Edition, 2006, also printed in 12 languages), Shi'i Islam: Origins, Faith & Practices (2003) and Principles of Jurisprudence (2006). He is also a coeditor of Catholics and Shi'a in Dialogue: Studies in Theology and Spirituality (2004) & Catholic-Shi'a Engagement: Reason & Faith in Theory & Practice (2006).
