Ayatollah Issa Qassem leaves London for Ziyarah in Iraq

Ayatollah Shaykh Issa Qassem has left London and reached Iraq for the Ziyarah of the holy shrines after almost 50 years of not visiting.

He travelled to Najaf International Airport from London with a medical team to monitor his health.

Since 2016, the Bahraini authorities had enforced a siege around his home in Bahrain, in addition to revoking his Bahraini citizenship and keeping him under house arrest. His health had deteriorated in July 2018, prompting the Bahraini authorities to allow him to leave the country and travel to the United Kingdom for medical treatment.

Ayatollah Qassem’s team say his visit to Iraq is for pilgrimage only and he seeks to return to his homeland of Bahrain thereafter.
