Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi Returns to His Lord

“Verily we are from Allah and to Him do we Return.”

It is with deep sadness and grief that we offer our condolences to the Imam of our time, Al-Mahdi (atf), to the Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and to the Ummah at large on the demise of Ayatollah Sayyid Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi.

He was born in 1948 in the Iraqi city of Najaf. There he attended the classes of numerous leading Islamic thinkers including Shaheed Muhammad Baqir Al-Sadr, Ayatollah Khoei and the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini.

Ayatollah Shahroudi traveled to Iran after the victory of the Islamic Revolution and served in many crucial positions in the Islamic Republic including as head of its Judiciary for 10 years, head of the Expediency Council, vice-president of the Assembly of Experts and a member of the Guardian Council.

Ayatollah Shahroudi published numerous books and articles in various fields, including Islamic jurisprudence and law. As a religious authority and teacher, he was well-known for his precise reasoning and robust approaches.

We request all believers to recite Surat Al-Fatiha.

Wa Min Allah Al-Tawfiq.
