STATEMENT: Imam Ali Islamic Centre arson attack

An arson attack on the largest Shia Islamic Centre in Sweden has left extensive parts of the building damaged amid rising Islamophobia in Europe.

The Ahlulbayt Islamic Mission (AIM) is very saddened to hear that the Imam Ali Islamic Centre in Stockholm, the largest in Sweden, was attacked last night leaving up to 50% of the building damaged from the fire that continued for hours.

The Imam Ali Islamic Centre, which is a branch of the World Ahlulbayt Assembly, provides religious services for thousands of Muslims in Stockholm who are now without their place of worship in the run up to the holy month of Ramadan which is due to start in less than one month. This is yet another indicator of the dire state for Muslims in Europe who are facing a record high number of Islamophobic hate crimes since statistics began.

Today, we stand in solidarity with the Muslim community in Sweden as they deal with the aftermath of this hateful crime.

We pray that the Almighty gives strength and patience to overcome these difficult times.

Wasalaamu Alaikum
